Plants need nitrogen. The air is full of it, locked as N₂. Haber found a catalyst, heat, and pressure that would stitch hydrogen to nitrogen as ammonia. Bosch scaled the autoclaves. Fertilizer from air fed a population boom. The same ammonia fed explosives in both world wars. Few processes have a double ledger so stark.

How it works
- Mix nitrogen and hydrogen at high pressure over an iron catalyst.
- Ammonia forms; cool it out; recycle the rest.
- Convert ammonia to nitrates for fertilizer or further chemistry.
